A mom, her two children and a family friend all disappeared Nov. 10 from their home in a rural Ohio county. Four days later, the girl was found bound in the basement of Matthew Hoffman, 30. Hundreds of people joined the search to find the missing three. On Nov. 18, with information from Hoffman, their dismembered bodies were found in a hollowed out tree in a remote wilderness area. The case garnered national attention for an area not used to the spotlight.
Along with my Dispatch colleagues, I covered the story from day one, and continue to follow the case, including a two-day series on Hoffman’s confession and 1,700-page case file released a month after he pleaded guilty to the crimes.
